A FAMILIAR figure stormed to victory in the 100m butterfly which brought to a close the second session of this weekend’s Rothschild Island Championships.

Ben Lowndes has been winning island titles for well over a decade and shows no signs of relenting any time soon, with a trip to Bermuda for next summer’s NatWest Island Games firmly in his sights.

‘I was 13 when I went to my first Island Games,’ said the 26-year-old Lowndes.

‘It is nice when you get together as a team and there is no club rivalry thing going on.

‘Perhaps when you are young there is still a bit of that Guernsey and Barracudas, them and us, going on in your head, but when you get to a senior age, it is just a really good atmosphere and good to be a part of.’
