Magnificent seventh title for star of show Le Tocq

IT IS now a magnificent seven island men’s singles titles for Paul Le Tocq.
The 30-year-old is unbeaten over the last decade in Guernsey Closed singles competition, missing out on three of those championships because he was off island at the time, including last year, and last night he regained the crown with a straight sets victory over teenager Jordan Trebert.
Le Tocq started the week as the top seed and would have been a hot favourite going into the final even if Trebert had been 100%. However, the 15-year-old was feeling distinctly under the weather with a heavy cold which would have forced him to miss any other match.
To his credit, Trebert approached the match with a nothing-to-lose attitude and looked far from overawed by the occasion, producing some fine shots that showed his obvious potential.
The women’s singles final was a see-saw three-set encounter which also resulted in a former champion regaining the title. However, Gayle Lloyd had to do it the hard way, coming from behind against No. 1 seed and 2011 winner Charlotte Barnes.
