THE island could have its first 3G surface multi-sport playing surface ready for use by early next autumn.
Final plans to redevelop the King George V Field into a brilliant, modern arena for cricket, football, rugby, fencing and sport for the disabled, are now with Environment.
Project manager Vince McEneaney is hopeful that work can start on the four-phase redevelopment next spring, several months later than first hoped.
McEneaney said that a number of significant changes had been made to the initial plans and that because Environment had been very helpful in getting the Sports Commission driven estimated £3.5m project to the stage that it is now, he is hopeful work will be able to start in the relatively near future.
