Driving down cost key to saving sand racing

THE prospects of Vazon sand racing surviving with an influx of autocross racers are looking ever stronger.
Simon Carre, someone who is committed to racing both, said yesterday he was very hopeful that a band of Chouet regulars will bolster the sand racing start lists next summer and keep the traditional GMC&CC summer programme going.
‘If we can get the costs down, there is the potential of another 10 joining and kicking it [sand racing] off again,’ said Carre, who has been combining both forms of beach racing for the last six years.
‘The sand racing side of things is dying a death, but because there are only four or five cars there is an expense involved. We need to get new blood in, get the costs down and get to make it more entertaining.’
