GUERNSEY secured a notable double triumph as their men and women both got the better of Jersey in the annual inter-insular pool matches across the water.
In contrasting affairs that the Sarnians eventually got the better of, they led the men’s event throughout but were made to work far harder in the women’s version.
During the early stages of the contests, Guernsey’s men led by a scoreline of 6-3 in the race to 13, while the women trailed by the same margin in theirs.
But there were fightbacks in both, one from either island, as in the men’s competition, Guernsey’s 9-3 lead was soon to become 10-8, while the women’s was even closer, deadlocked at 10-10 at one stage.
However, the men got back on track again and won thanks to James Kirk clinching the rack required for the victory and back-to-back titles.
