GBA going for gold
Friday 21st December 2012, 2:00PM GMT.
SEVEN of last year’s gold medal-winning team will represent Guernsey at the 2013 NatWest Island Games in Bermuda.
The 10-strong squad announced by the Guernsey Badminton Association selectors also includes two new caps in brother and sister Jordan and Emily Trebert as well as a return for Commonwealth Games player Elena Johnson, pictured, who is delighted to be back in the Island Games fold.
‘Shetland was my last Games [in 2005] and I medalled in every event there,’ she said.
‘There was no badminton in Rhodes, but I missed out on Aland and Isle of Wight because of work commitments.
‘I was 19 at my last Games and now, at 27, this will be my fifth Island Games,’ added Johnson, who has just had her last day teaching at Channing School in north London and will be taking up a post at the Grammar School in January.
