SIX of the island’s mostpromising sports stars are heading to Bermuda and next year’s Island Games on the cheap.

Triathlete Luke Winberg, swimmer Courtney Butcher, athletes Sam Wallbridge and Zoe Fitch, and sailers Andy Bridgman and Johanna Asplund have all received funding from Butterfield sporting bursaries to help them attend the Games.

Originally, two bursaries were on offer but as so many young sportsmen and sportswomen applied, Butterfield decided to increase the number.

Jon Marley, Guernsey Island Games Association Games liaison director, said the bursaries will be invaluable to the six chosen recipients in helping them with the costs of attending the Games next year.
