Duo are off to Sheffield
Friday 28th December 2012, 2:30PM GMT.
Jack Turvey, the island's under-13 No. 1.
TWO Guernsey players have qualified for the top European junior tournament, the British Junior Open, which is being held in Sheffield from 2 to 6 January.
The island’s under-13 No. 1 Jack Turvey and under-15 No. 1 Tom Stewart have both earned enough ranking points to qualify for the tournament and compete against the best junior players from 22 countries around the world including Egypt, Pakistan and USA.
The matches will not be easy, though.
In the first round Turvey is drawn against Ireland’s No. 2, Sam Buckley, but with two tournament wins under his belt in December Turvey is playing his best squash and is confident of doing well.
Stewart also has a tough draw and will meet the Danish No. 2 and European No. 32 Rasmus Rud Gyde.
