GFC fear wait will make them rusty
Saturday 29th December 2012, 10:00AM GMT.
ANOTHER postponement will see Guernsey FC enter the toughest period of their season with rustiness likely to be a serious problem.
This afternoon’s scheduled CCL Premier Division match against Hanworth Villa at Footes Lane fell victim to the weather yesterday morning, making it three successive home postponements.
It is the sixth in total this season due to rain and means the Green Lions still have 27 league games remaining in a four-month period, as well as cup matches, starting with six away from home next month.
Footes Lane is not the only local ground suffering, though, as all three of this afternoon’s scheduled FNB Priaulx League games are in serious doubt.
Sylvans are due to host North at a sodden St Peter’s that was yesterday described by home coach Shaun Staples as ‘50-50 at best if there’s no more rain’.
It is a similar story at the Corbet Field, where title challengers Vale Rec and St Martin’s are due to meet, both looking to close the gap on leaders Bels.
Today’s third 2pm kick-off is scheduled at Port Soif between Rovers and Rangers, but with that ground also largely underwater yesterday, a game looks hopeful at best.
