PEOPLE know him for his athletic exploits and have seen the pictures of him wearing a Great Britain vest.

But, all too often, it’s forgotten that Dale Garland is one very handy footballer.

The Vale Rec defence, as good as any in the Priaulx League this winter, got an untimely reminder of Garland’s footballing skills at the Corbet Field last Saturday when the Rangers stalwart scored twice in a shock 3-2 Guernsey FA Cup win.

The yellows’ defence simply could not live with his pace, still undiminished at the age of 32.

It is also forgotten that Garland once won a full Muratti cap, in 1999 when he came off the bench in a 2-0 win over Jersey at the Track: it was Matt Le Cras’s golden day.
