FOR a few short hours under grey skies in deepest Hampshire, a cry might have gone out: ‘Aldershot who?’
For once, just once, the strongest distance running club in the whole of the UK, Aldershot, Farnham and District to give it its full title, had not emerged from the annual county championships as top dogs.
That honour went to a small club across the water in Guernsey, producer of the winner of both the senior men’s and women’s races, overall women’s team champions, men’s silver medallists, under-13 boys’ team gold medallists and provider of the under-15 girls’ race winner to boot.
There were other medals, too.
Natalie Whitty’s brilliant silver, Danny Ray’s individual bronze, the U15 boys’ silver and a bronze for Alex Rowe in the U13 boys.
