The comeback to end all comebacks
Wednesday 16th January 2013, 10:00AM GMT.
JUST when an island and a nation, well those up very early, had given up on Heather Watson, the Guernsey star produced an astonishing comeback to reach the third round of the Australian Open.
She saved three match points in the second set to brilliantly defeat Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 after three hours.
The battle of two of the 2009 Grand Slam junior champions fluctuated remarkably and after many desperate moments the British No. 1 came through in a one-sided final set.
Watson had been up against it from the very first game.
Serving, she lost it to love and the Kazakhstan player then took the first three points of the next before finally the Guernsey woman registered her first point.
