THE champions came within an inch of losing their unbeaten record last night but managed to nick a thriller by the narrowest of margins.

As the preceding Division Two match that went to overtime showed, basketball doesn’t do draws and yet on this occasion it seemed particularly harsh that either side should lose.

It was an enthralling contest that never saw the teams separated by more than seven points –  and that was only for a matter of seconds at the start of the second half.

Up to that point and throughout the third quarter, it was Panthers who had the edge on the scoreboard, but the experienced LMS2 outfit remained calm against opponents missing the influential Andrejs Vaganors.
