ON THE day she won the Guernsey Sports Commission Trophy, a smiling Heather Watson admitted: ‘I do like making it hard for myself’.
The Sarnian star was last night recognised by the commission as the outstanding performer of 2012 at their Sporting Achievement Awards night, just hours after her amazing come-from-behind victory over Ksenia Pervak which saw her through to the third round of the Australian Open.
Watson saved three match points from being 6-3 down in the second-set tie-break before winning in three.
‘What I said to myself was, “She’s going to have to win it – I’m not going to give it to her”,’ said the British No. 1.
However, Watson grudgingly admitted that, for a moment, she thought the match had gone.
