Five do now go into XI

THERE has been support for the announcement from the Guernsey Football Association that their players can play five-a-side football once again.

After the ‘social’ and five-a-side leagues de-affiliated from the GFA back in 2008, players were unable to play the indoor format if they were registered and playing within the GFA umbrella.

But the local game’s governing body has confirmed that a new approach has been agreed, something that delights GFA chairman Chris Schofield, pictured, who anticipates players now returning from the ‘social leagues’.

‘In introducing our four-year development plan back in 2008, it was never our intention to force players to choose between five-a-side and 11-a-side football,’ he said.

Is now the time for the GFA to admit they got it all horribly wrong a couple of years back and invite the social leagues back into the fold for next season?

Sorting out the 5 a side leagues is the first small step to getting things to how they were / should be.
