EXACTLY 40 years after they made their last and only appearance in cricket’s top flight, Independents are back in Division One of the Evening League this summer.

And they return boosted by the signing of one of the island’s most effective short-game performers, the big-hitting Australian all-rounder, Justin Meades, pictured.

He may not be the last of Cenkos Independents’ new signings either, as team manager Marc Griffiths explained.

‘There may be a couple more, including a Guernsey under-21s player, but I can’t say more than that,’ said Griffiths, who has been with the club on their slow move up through the leagues over the past two decades.
