Butcher takes Neves record
Friday 1st February 2013, 2:30PM GMT.
MILES MUNRO and Courtney Butcher led a strong Guernsey performance at the weather-hit Channel Islands Championships, which were eventually raced across two islands.
After many Jersey swimmers were unable to get to Beau Sejour, the event was raced in a postal format and the results were then belatedly collated.
When they were, Munro completed a clean sweep of the four freestyle events from 50m up to 400m, while Butcher won the respective women’s events in the 50m, 100m and 200m. Two of Munro’s titles were in record times, his 1-54.79 in the 200m and 23.33 in the 50m both giving him comfortable wins.
Butcher collected eight CI titles across the weekend, as she also won the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke crowns, and the individual medley titles for 100m and 400m.
Butcher, who is still only 14, broke one record in winning those titles, as her effort of 2-04.22 in the 200m freestyle shattered the previous mark of 2-06.06 set in 2011 by Kristina Neves.
