HEATHER WATSON made amends for a surprising singles slip-up to help claim the deciding rubber for Team GB against Portugal in the Fed Cup yesterday.

In the second of GB’s group matches, Laura Robson had earlier won her match, before Watson was defeated in straight sets by Michelle Larcher de Brito 6-1, 6-4.

But she hit back immediately, as the Guernsey girl partnered Robson to a convincing 6-2, 6-1 doubles victory over Larcher de Brito and Joana Vale Costa, to give GB two group wins from two.

They now face Hungary today in their final group match, with a potential promotion play-off taking place tomorrow morning.
