Muratti to move
Friday 15th February 2013, 12:25PM GMT.
Guernsey skipper Sam Cochrane and goalkeeper Chris Tardif lift the Muratti Vase after beating Jersey 2-0 in last year's Muratti at Springfield.
The Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands Senior Men’s Muratti has been moved to Saturday 18 May.
The change of date for the match, which will take place at The Track, follows an approach by the Guernsey FA to the Channel Islands Inter-Insular Football Committee to move the game from 5 May.
A GFA statement said that in its approach it ‘highlighted both the adverse weather conditions, which had led to the postponement of so many matches this season, and a desire from all parties that the strongest squads possible were involved in the Muratti Vase final.’.

Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.

If the intent is to move the Muratti until after a certain local club has finished its season in a UK league then surely the 18th May is wildly optimistic? On current evidence it looks like it’ll be more like the beginning or middle of June before that happens, unless of course we don’t have any rain for the next 3 months.

Saracens play their first rugby Premiership game on their 3G pitch tomorrow and it will be interesting to see the feedback.
Could well be the answer at Footes Lane in addition to one at KGV. Apparently costs £500k and £18k a year to maintain. Something for Guernsey FC and Guernsey RFC to get together and seriously consider, possibly with a loan from the States or with the States buying it and leading it jointly to the two clubs and to GFA. It could be used several times a day at weekends and in evenings at midweek to play catch-up with football fixtures, and also for training.
It’s the way sport is going.

The date as it stands will not clash as the League campaign will have to be finished by then. This is because any further extension of the season would need to be done by the FA. They are unlikely to do thi just for one club/League. Leagues need to be finished as early as possible so that the FA can decide the promotion and relegation placements.
If this means playing 3 or 4 games a week then so be it.

I do agree that a 3g pitch would appear to be the way forward, but we shouldn’t forget that Footes Lane was originally for Athletics and then Rugby and Football came along later. I believe that you can hold field events on a 3g pitch however you need to put rubber tips over the javelin tip.
Not sure how easy it would be to install a 3g pitch and not cause a major problem for either Athletics, Rugby or Football.
