THE man they call ‘The Artist’ painted a promising picture of Guernsey squash player Chris Simpson after they went head-to-head at the Davenport North American Open.
The Guernseyman was always going to be a massive underdog against world No. 1 Ramy Ashour in the first round of the PSA World Series event, but he gave the best player on the planet a good test in Virginia before succumbing in four games.
‘Chris showed that he is going to be a very good player,’ said Ashour.
‘He played well tonight and I like the way he plays.’
Simpson, who is ranked a career-high 28th in the world, admitted to a few nerves when he stepped on court in Richmond and it showed as he mis-hit a couple of clear openings for winners in the first game, which he lost 11-4.
