THE CCL Premier Division title race was blown wide open last night after Guernsey FC crashed to a 3-1 defeat against big rivals Egham Town at the Runnymede Stadium.
Goals from Jamie Read, Luke Craig and substitute Brendan Matthews gave the hosts a deserved victory against a poor Green Lions side, who had levelled things at 1-1 through Ross Allen.
It all means that Egham remain in second place and move 15 points clear of GFC, who have six games in hand on the ‘Sarnies’, although there was some good news in the shape of league leaders Epsom & Ewell also losing.
But that was the furthest thing from GFC coach Tony Vance’s mind, as he reflected on ‘one of the worst performances since I became Guernsey coach’, which stretches back to 2009.
