A CRACKING second-half strike from Rory Moriarty last night saw Vale Rec close the gap on Bels in the FNB Priaulx League title race once more.
Even though both coaches agreed that champions North were unlucky to come away from this Grand Fort Road derby empty-handed, it was a goal worthy of winning any game.
Having fought their way back from a 2-0 deficit to go into half-time on level terms, Rec knew they needed to go that extra step and take maximum points to maintain a strong title challenge.
The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when the hosts paid the ultimate price for not clearing a James Mullen corner properly and Moriarty came onto the ball 20 yards out, hitting it sweetly first time with his left foot and it scorched through a crowd penalty area into the top corner.

is it true that north are losing players hand over fist?? a friend tells me that there is a lot of unhappy players at the club who are not bothering anymore now that norths season is all but over

As a total outsider having seen their coach on the sidelines I can see why this would be the case

Hiii – The same coach that led the island Under 21s to victory over Jersey last weekend? That suggests he’s not a bad coach.
Cosby – I’m involved with local football and I’m not aware that any players have left North recently. And I think they are still in the FA Cup semi finals, the last Guernsey team in the Wheway cup and maybe in the Jeremie cup too. So their season isn’t quite over yet.

Just my humble opnion but he reminds me of Dave Bassett. He may be an excellent coach or a poor coach but you can’t claim a result of a one of match indicates either way (especially when guernsey were poor)

mike let me ask you this question, why does a coach that is doing so badly at his club take on another job? surely he should be focussing on managing and bettering his club side before taking other coaching positions. i have spoken to more people since my last post and most think he is a good coach with younger players but he does not have the respect or strength of character in a priaulx changing room. he does not know how to change his side when they are losing or how to fire them up, as Ross Cameron did. north maybe still in a few cups but believe me there are several senior players at north who are very unhappy as with a history such as norths the only expected cups are leagues and uptons and if they are not winning them they want to be challenging, which they are obviously not right now

The u21s doesn’t exactly add much workload as it was a one off game with one friendly beforehand. He’s known to be one of the best young coaches around and so it makes sense for him to be chosen to coach some of guernsey’s younger players.
People seem to forget that the squad he inherited is not the same squad that won the league last year due to a number of the better players concentrating on Guernsey FC eg alex le Prevost and Ollie Mckenzie amongst others.
You may be right in what you say as I haven’t spoken to anyone in or close to the team but I think it may be too early to judge him.
Oh and the Wheway is still one of the biggest cups and to be the only guernsey side left suggests North aren’t doing too badly.

cup games are one offs so you can progress through on a one off good performance or a one off bad performance by your opponents, anyone can be beaten in a cup game.
league titles are the gauge to monitor how your club is progressing. ‘it is not a sprint it is a marathon’ as the saying goes and therefore you are judged by your progression over numerous games. north are not progressing and the gfc player thing is an easy excuse.
the lower standard of priaulx football should have been enough for north to continue to progress with the loss of le prevost and mckenzie. north have always had some of the best young talent in the island as players have rolled out of their excellent youth set up. there is no fire in norths first team, their second team is really poor, they are really struggling right now and i am not sure they would be if cameron was still in charge.
rec have a very young side who are really turning into a strong side. if they dont quite win the priaulx this year they will be very, very close next year as another year together and all players being another year older will strengthen them further. they seem to be a very tight knit unit who dont know when they are beaten. they do rely on certain players, bisson in goal is so important to them, but they seem to be gelling into a good unit under carl le tissier. they are not everyones cup of tea as they moan, swear and dive around for free kicks and penalties (which works a treat for them as i have never seen a team get so many penalties) but there is no denying that they are going forwards as quick as north are going backwards.
