GUERNSEY dramatically retained their position in the prestigious Division One South of the Senior British table tennisLeague.

The Sportingbet-sponsored team of Phil Ogier, Paul Hainsworth, Adam Langlois and Dawn Morgan headed to the final round of matches in Slough in sixth position of the eight-strong division and knew that to prevent relegation they would need to avoid finishing bottom of the table.

Defeat in the opening three fixtures left the side with a tough clash against second-placed side Urban I on Sunday afternoon, a match in which a victory was required to absolutely ensure safety.

The situation was that TTC Cornwall were a single point behind going into the final match, in which they were contesting against third-placed Batts I.
