GUERNSEY’S run in the Investec England Hockey Women’s Vase obviously means a lot to Bianca Symes.

She was certainly prepared to go to great lengths to play in Sunday’s quarter-final.

‘I bought flexible flights purely because of that,’ said the laughing New Zealander when asked if she would have been able to play had opponents Burnt Ash opted to travel to the island.

You see, this weekend Symes is heading back to her homeland for her aunt’s wedding just north of Auckland.

Originally she had planned to depart for New Zealand tonight, until she found out that the Vase Quarter-Final date was two days later and so she moved her schedule back just so she could feature for the island.

Guernsey are glad she did, too.
