SEVEN local athletes proved their mettle over a boggy Inter-Counties Cross Country course in Birmingham at the weekend, with three of them picking up team medals for Hampshire.

In the senior women’s race, Louise Perrio, pictured, produced a superb run to cross the finish line in 20th place over the 8km course, a result that is indicative of her form throughout this winter.

Perrio was third Hampshire counter within the team race behind overall winner Louise Damen and Easter Festival regular Steph Twell in fifth.

The combined efforts of the three saw them come away with the team gold medal ahead of Surrey.
