Seventh-placed McLaughlin has mixed emotions

DESPITE enjoying a splendid seventh place in the British National Time Trial, James McLaughlin was left rueing the one that got away in the subsequent National Road Race.
While understandably satisfied with his efforts over the 49.2km time trial course in Ayrshire, it was in the brutal and unforgiving 185km road race in Glasgow where the young Sarnian believed he missed his moment.
The race was eventually won by the legendary Isle of Man rider Mark Cavendish in a three-man sprint finish, ahead of Ian Stannard and David Millar, both also racing in the upcoming Tour de France.
But, as Team Sojasun rider McLaughlin explained, he felt like he only just missed out on playing a role near the front in the early part of proceedings.
