Rovers give Bels a fright

Bels 3, Rovers 2
FOOTBALL can be a cruel game sometimes.
Just moments away from taking the champions to a penalty shootout that nobody could have begrudged them, Rovers were beaten by the unluckiest of deflections in the Rawlinson Cup final.
Not too many would have predicted they would still be in the match in the 89th minute, but they were and deservedly so, having led at one point.
But with both sides chasing a winner, it was Luke Winch’s powerful long-range effort that was goalbound, but likely to be dealt with by Tom Newbold, only to hit Jake Ellis and beat the Rovers keeper.
It keeps alive the early-season Bels juggernaut, but they were pushed harder than in some time locally by the side that finished last season with not a single point to their name.
On this evidence, their final tally during 2013-14 will be substantially higher, as they were impressive to say the least.
