Moriarty quickest Guernsey rider
Saturday 31st August 2013, 11:30AM BST.
MORE than 40 riders took part in another successful two-day motocross meet at Pleinmont.
A number of visiting Jersey riders were among the entry list and had the most success in the main senior ‘A’ category, securing first and third place.
Lee Le Viellez was the eventual winner, while his colleague Sam Alex also made it onto the podium, although they were split in the final standings by home rider Hamish Moriarty.
Across the six point-scoring races to make up the final points, both Le Viellez and Moriarty won multiple heats and like all of the classes, the final margin of victory was tight.
The man in charge of the Kart and Motor Club’s motocross ection, Karl Marshall, was delighted with how the weekend unfolded.
‘We clicked lucky with the weather and it made it an exciting weekend, as well as an extremely quick one too,’ he said.
‘The track has been reversed to what it was in previous years, which adds a bit of variety and it is a lot quicker than it was, with the lap record being beaten.
‘Hamish went round in 1min. 14.08sec., which was around 10 seconds quicker than the previous best, so it shows how fast the track is now.
‘Every single class of the weekend was closely fought and, with not many points separating people, it was very competitive.’
