Foursomes so crucial says captain

A FAST start could hold the key to Guernsey regaining the Challenge Trophy in this weekend’s inter-insular.
The island’s new non-playing captain Julian Woodhard takes over the reins from Dave Rowlinson looking to prevent Jersey from completing a hat-trick of successive victories when the two sides go head-to-head at L’Ancresse.
With the clock ticking down to the opening foursomes tomorrow morning, Woodhard emphasised how important the five alternative-shot rubbers will be to the outcome of the overall match.
‘In the first session it is paramount to get off to a good start,’ said the Guernsey captain, fully aware that Jersey whitewashed the Sarnians in last year’s foursomes at Grouville on the way to a 13-7 win.
‘As long as we are at least level or in front, then excellent – you do not want to go 4-1 down because that leaves you too much to do.
‘I will make it known to my players that I want them to keep the ball in play as anything around level par will win those foursomes matches.’
