Frith nears batting record

AFTER the frustration of missing out a year ago, Jeremy Frith is determined to keep his fantastic success going, in tomorrow’s Marlborough Trophy inter-insular match at the KGV.The star Guernsey all-rounder has a fantastic record against Jersey, both with bat and ball, so much so that if he reaches 25 runs tomorrow, he will become his island’s all-time top run scorer in the fixture, now entering its 62nd edition.
Arguably the 35-year-old’s standout performance came in 2011, when a brilliant 129 set up Guernsey’s total of 273 and he followed that up with a bowling spell of 4 for 30 in a 147-run thrashing.
He couldn’t back that up a year later as he was sidelined through pneumonia, but he is back now and itching to make it nine wins from 12 and improve further his batting and bowling averages of 62.38 and 12.90 respectively.
‘You have to approach this game like you would any other game of cricket, although it would be naive to suggest that there isn’t something different about the inter-
insular,’ he said.
