Green Lions go back to Black
Wednesday 11th September 2013, 10:30AM BST.
FOR the first time in the near 10 months since his double leg break, Ryan-Zico Black is set to pull on a Guernsey FC shirt again tonight.
Hundreds of hours of rehabilitation have followed that horrific injury at Erith Town, as well as recent playing time for Vale Rec, and the reward has come with a call-up to Tony Vance’s match-day squad.
With a severe lack of centre midfielders, Black could well start at Burgess Hill Town, alongside Dom Heaume in the middle of the park.
Even if he is on the bench, though, it will be a sweet moment for the 32-year-old.
‘I have been thinking about this moment and pulling on that shirt again for a long time. It is one of the things that kept me going straight after the injury,’ he said.
‘I have built up my minutes with Vale Rec, from 50 minutes, through 60, 70, 90 and then 120 on Friday night when the match went to extra-time.
‘The leg feels good, my heart and lungs feel good, my general fitness is decent and although it may take me a game or two to get back up to Ryman pace, I am hoping to be lucky and be on the ball straight away.
‘It is an exciting and interesting GFC group now, with lots of younger new faces in since I last played, so I can’t wait to be back playing now.’
Guernsey FC possible starting team (4-4-2):
Tom Creed, Jacques Isabelle, Sam Cochrane, Tom Strawbridge, Tom Martin, Matt Loaring, Dom Heaume, Ryan-Zico Black, Glyn Dyer, Marc McGrath, Ross Allen. Subs: Nigel Hutton, Kyle Smith.
