Guernsey FC up to ninth

GUERNSEY FC have moved level with the Ryman South play-off places after continuing their superb away start to the season at Burgess Hill Town last night.
The Green Lions secured a 3-0 success through Marc McGrath’s strike and a Ross Allen brace on a night when Ryan-Zico Black also made his welcome return from injury off the subs bench early in the second half.
GFC are now unbeaten in five away games, including one in the FA Cup, moving to 13 points from their eight league games. That puts them ninth in the table, only behind fifth-placed Peacehaven & Telscombe and a host of other sides on goal difference.
It was a perfect warm-up for Saturday’s big FA Cup clash at Hastings United and GFC head coach Colin Fallaize, in charge in the absence of manager Tony Vance, was pleased with the night.
‘That was one of the best all-round performances we have had in may GFC games,’ he said.
‘Our defensive shape, communication and work-rate meant that a team who came out wanting to have a real go at us were forced to play sideways for the whole night.
‘Tony will be very pleased with the progress that we are making and everybody, players and coaches alike, are proving that they are learning at this level every single game.’
