FA Cup tie not coming to Guernsey
Wednesday 18th September 2013, 4:51PM BST.
GUERNSEY FC have announced this afternoon that their FA Cup with Budweiser second qualifying round tie with Dover Athletic will not take place in the island.
The Green Lions were rewarded with a home draw following their 3-2 victory at Hastings United in the first qualifying round, having already overcome Crawley Down Gatwick in the preliminary round.
However, under the FA terms given to GFC to allow them to compete in the FA Cup, all matches taking place in Guernsey must kick off at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon unless the two teams can agree to an alternative kick off time.
The match is due to take place on Saturday 28 September when the Guernsey Rugby Club already have a home match in National Three London & South-East at Footes Lane, which kicks off at 2.30pm and is unable to be moved.
Dover Athletic declined the option of playing either on the Friday or Saturday evening and also refused to play on the Sunday.
Therefore, to comply with FA rules, GFC have to play the game in the UK at a venue yet to be confirmed.
