Guernsey FC’s chance to cause an FA upset

GUERNSEY FC have ‘a great chance’ of creating an FA Cup upset, according to their most experienced non-league player.
The Green Lions travel to Lancing tomorrow for their ‘home’ second qualifying-round tie with Dover Athletic, who are two tiers higher and from the Conference South. GFC goalkeeper and vice-captain Chris Tardif spent a lengthy period playing semi-professionally at that level and believes it is not out of reach for the island side. ‘Right now, we probably aren’t ready to win games on a weekly basis at step two, but in a one-off game, there is no reason at all why we can’t go through,’ he said.
‘It will be a brilliant guide for us to see where we are currently at, whether we are heading in the right direction – which I think we are – and how much more work we need to put in. But if we play at our very best and play in the same sort of way as last weekend’s win [over Hythe Town], then we have a great chance of a win.’
Dover manager Chris Kinnear said: ‘They [GFC] have got some good, experienced players like Ryan-Zico Black, who has played in the Conference. They are also used to playing in front of 1,000-plus crowds in Guernsey, so I’m sure it won’t be easy for us.’
