Green Lions can spring FA Cup upset says Vance

TONY VANCE believes that Guernsey FC are good enough to cause a major FA Cup upset against Dover Athletic today.
Although giant-killing would probably be too strong a word for a Green Lions success in the second qualifying-round at Lancing, they will still go in as significant underdogs against the Conference South team.
Two divisions and effectively 38 league places separate the two sides, but GFC manager Vance insists he has a team worthy of belonging at that level of non-league football.
‘Spennymoor, who beat us in the FA Vase last season, would belong at this same kind of level if they had chosen to get promoted over the years,’ he said. ‘We weren’t too far off them and showed in the second-leg of that tie that we had learned what was needed and that we could compete with them.
‘Players at this level are of a very good pedigree, are technically very good and we have already seen in our league the step up in standard of goalkeepers and defenders. But I firmly believe that we will have some players in our team technically superior to those at Dover.’
Vance has the luxury of naming an unchanged matchday squad from the midweek win over Chipstead, although that means Jamie Dodd and Jacques Isabelle are still sidelined with injury. Matt Loaring should be fit enough to start despite picking up a knock against Chipstead.
