Women’s pairing shine in Normandy
Thursday 3rd October 2013, 12:00PM BST.
KARINA BOWIE and Ann Bowditch led the Guernsey charge in Normandy, as a large number of Sarnian cyclists competed off-island.
As part of a 14-strong Guernsey team that travelled to the prestigious Duo Normand in France, the two women finished second in their competitive category.
Raced in a pairs format, with both riders having to finish together, Bowie and Bowditch lost out only narrowly to a professional team.
Bowie was pleased with how the weekend went as a whole, with Chris Le Page and Graham Le Maitre also shining by winning the tandems category.
‘It is always a great event with huge numbers participating and a brilliant way to end the season,’ she said.
‘Obviously, myself and Ann went into the event hoping to win it, but we still feel that we did well and there were a number of excellent performances from a number of the Guernsey cyclists.
‘The course has a bit of everything really. There are flat stages, hilly stages and downwards stages, so it is quite a test.’
