Priaulx League side fall at first hurdle

THE Priaulx League representative side could not prevent the Jersey Combination starting their defence of the FA Inter-League Cup with a 3-1 win on Saturday.
Goals from Chris Andrews and Craig Russell gave the hosts a 2-0 half-time lead before Simon Tostevin pulled one back for the visiting Guernsey team.
However, Jersey captain Russell made the game safe with his second, eight minutes from time.
‘Jersey were hungrier than us first half and they deserved to be ahead. Yes we had a couple of chances to make it 1-1, but unfortunately we could not convert them,’ said Priaulx League coach Ian Champion.
‘Like Jersey, our team has not played much together and I thought it was a bit harsh to be 2-0 down at the break.
‘We were worked hard in the second half and Luke [Winch] missed a great chance for us. Luke is a bit of a luxury player and he was stopped a lot today by the physical strengths of Jersey’s players.
‘It was different at the other end where Naro [Zimmerman] showed his strength with a strong performance in the centre of defence.’
