Collins weighs into Commonwealth Bowls Selection Fuss
Friday 25th October 2013, 12:00PM BST.
GARRY COLLINS has turned on Guernsey’s most decorated bowler, Alison Merrien MBE, as the Commonwealth Games selection row rumbles on.
Replying to a request for information from a reporter for the online UK publication Insidethegames.biz, Collins – in his role as bowls delegate to the Guernsey Commonwealth Games Association – accused Merrien of ‘throwing her toys out of the pram because she did not get her own way’.
Asked to comment on the selection row, Collins defended the decision to choose Lucy Beere as the singles representative in Glasgow, a move which led to Merrien withdrawing from the selection process, even though she was likely to get a pairs berth in partnership with the former Isle of Wight player now long-resided in Guernsey.
