ROSS ALLEN’S brilliant late hat-trick ensured Guernsey FC’s first Ryman South game in 25 days ended with a notable 4-1 success over Worthing at Footes Lane on Saturday.
Due to their recent cup excursions, the Green Lions have had a self-enforced league break that had seen them drop to 10th, but this success took their unbeaten run to six games and Allen’s tally to 19 goals in his last 11 games.
His first, a stunning left-footed strike, came in the 75th minute and he added two more, one of them from the penalty spot, for another crucial three points for manager Tony Vance’s men, who have now risen to seventh.
Vance was a happy man after the win and praised his team’s perseverance to keep creating problems.
‘We controlled the game well in the first half and the only real bugbear I had was that we were only one up at half-time [through Matt Loaring’s strike],’ he said.
‘We were braver on the ball today than against Billericay last week and expressed ourselves better, but then Worthing grabbed an equaliser in the second half that they deserved and made it dangerous for us.
‘Ross then stepped up to the plate and came to the party like he does, his first and our second goal was a brilliant finish.’
