LUCY BEERE, one of Guernsey’s leading exponents of the art of lawn bowls, found her defeat in the quarter-finals of the Atlantic women’s singles championship to be a defining moment in her sporting career.

GUERNSEY’S bowlers played five matches in the Atlantic championships in Cyprus yesterday, but there was only one victory to cheer, Lucy Beere notching up a fine 21-14 win over Spain’s Peta Rhodes.

THERE was high drama in Paphos yesterday, when every eye was trained on Guernsey’s stand-in Atlantic men’s singles representative Matt Le Ber, who was involved in not one, but two remarkable 21-20 thrillers.

GUERNSEY bowlers, who did not have a great deal to cheer about on Friday when they completed their group campaigns in the Atlantic pairs and triples championships, have it all to play for again in Cyprus this week.
