CUSTODIANS of Alderney history have thrown their weight behind a bid to mount a census on the island.

THE people of Alderney have historically been very good at completing their census forms.

ELECTRONIC data from the authorities in Guernsey should provide the information Alderney needs to assess its population, the Policy and Finance Committee chairman said.

DESCRIBING plans for a new centralised citizens’ database as a ‘modern form of rolling census’ is disingenuous, to put it mildly. It’s far more than that.

THE Policy Council has reassured islanders that all data protection issues would be carefully looked at if a proposal for an electronic census is accepted.

IT IS hard to imagine Guernsey populated by 64,300 people.

THE records of the 1911 Guernsey census have gone online today.
