ONE of the striking consequences of the debate about GCSE exam results has been the number of people in ordinary conversation who have been quick to say the secondary schools would have performed better were it not for the distortion caused by the colleges and the Grammar School.

WHEN he stood up to condemn the GCSE results that were published for the high schools for the first time, the president of the Guernsey Society of Chartered and Certified Accountants said they were ‘simply unacceptable’.

GCSE results have got worse locally over the last eight years.

BAILIWICK GCSE students have achieved a 75% pass rate at C grade and above – more than 5% higher than their national counterparts.
