HOTELIERS are urging those behind the airport project to reconsider local business for worker accommodation after plans to use Longue Hougue and the Water Tower site were withdrawn.

PLANNING permission and potential legal action will be the next hurdles for Guernsey’s £80m. airport project after the States gave it the go-ahead yesterday.

AIRPORT work is essential but it has taken too long for the States to make up its mind, nearby residents have said.

STATES members have just passed the £80.4m. airport development project and appointed the preferred contractor Lagan Construction.

GUERNSEY AIRPORT has clocked up more than £10m. in new costs since the development project started in 2009, it has emerged.

DELAYS, environmental damage and cost were some of the factors highlighted when Public Services rejected the Petit Bot conveyor belt system for the airport project.

THE mix of public money and private contractors is often fraught with difficulty. While taxpayers may foot the bill, the company understandably insists on some commercial privacy. The result is that legitimate questions about how ‘our money’ is being spent are seemingly brushed aside.

THE States is being asked to approve the compulsory purchase of two pieces of land to prevent further delays to the airport redevelopment project and an increase in costs of more than £2m.
