THE St Pierre Air Rifle Club opened its doors for the annual Christmas Shoot this week when shooters from the island’s different clubs came together.

PAUL GUILLOU has shown fine form in the opening weks of the Shield Trophy air rifle league, which is based solely on gun score.

AFTER occupying first and second place in the UK schools rifle-shooting championship at Bisley in two successive years, Max Barber has rounded off his Elizabeth College shooting career by winning the Cadet Open Championship in Canada.

WITH as many as 44 entrants for the annual Guernsey Rifle Club Summer Prize Meeting the local club wanted fine weather and their wishes were granted with the range bathed in sunshine for the greater part of the weekend.

ALTHOUGH Nick Branch found himself languishing in sixth place following the first stage, the Guernsey Rifle Club champion in 2009 and 2010 took the second stage silver medal after an exciting battle with Richard Perkins that was decided only on the last shot.

CONDITIONS were ideal with blue skies and gentle breezes as the annual Guernsey Rifle Club Championship got under way at Fort Le Marchant, a far cry from the wet and windy conditions experienced at Bisley during the previous two weeks.

TEN days of torrential rain showers at Bisley had forced competitors into frequent battles to keep gear, guns and ammunition dry.

IT WAS always going to be a tall order for Max Barber to equal last year’s winning performance in the schools’ rifle shooting competitions at Bisley.

NOT many people can lay claim to being a national champion and NatWest Island Games gold medallist on debut.

JERSEY has once again come out on top in the Channel Islands qualifier for the Astor Trophy.
