Pub landlord fears for trade

George SlaneLINKING Guernsey Water’s new headquarters to the main drain will see a St Andrew’s road closed until Christmas.

But the work will give neighbours an opportunity to connect to the main drain – as long as they pay for the pipework from their property.

There was a mixed response from Mauxmarquis residents to the letters sent to each household informing them of the closure between 30 August and 23 December.

The Last Post licensee George Slane (pictured) said the length of the closure was a big worry for his business.

‘A lot of people using the pub are from the parish but I think it will affect the restaurant sales quite badly,’ he said.

I’m almost with PBFalla on this one!

Why on earth does this actually need to happen?

In these times of fiscal difficulty surely this is not essential.

Oh hang on – I know – its so we become CAA compliant…you can’t have a public building within 2 miles of an airport that isn’t connected to a main drain…just in case.

No doubt an excuse to increase water rates again.
