Locals are in line for 40-plus jobs from airport contract

Guernsey Airport runwayAT LEAST 40 local workers are likely to be employed for the £80.4m. airport runway project.

Up to now, Public Services has been tight-lipped over worker ratios, despite pressure from local businesses and islanders to force its preferred contractor, Lagan Construction Ltd, to employ from on-island resources.

But a clue as to how the company intends to source its labour was buried in the project’s environmental impact assessment.

In a section discussing transport arrangements for its 150 employees it said: ‘Of this total, approximately 110 are likely to be accommodated at appropriate locations which are still to be determined through a separate planning application, the remainder likely being native to the island.’
